At 12: 02 a.m., on Apr 10, 2022, a tragedy was inflicted on Pakistan by the High Command of its army–those sworn to defend and protect the state and its people. They sold out the state to a foreign power, and overthrew a popularly elected legitimate government.

On Apr 15 I sent the following note to Maj Gen [retired] Ejaz Amjad, the father-in-law of the then Army Chief, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.

“For Gen Ejaz Amjad.

What is it that you and your son in law, Gen Qamar Bajwa, have done to Pakistan?

What was your compulsion to sell us off to the pimps who prostituted us for 30 years?

Why have you taken us to the brink?

Why did you have no care for our sons and daughters?

Did you not have any of your own?

And if you had, was it a tradition in your family to prostitute them?

Why should you feel that we, the sold and aggrieved, will not reach for your fattened throats when we can reach them?

Or at least dig you out of your graves and feed your dishonoured bones to our dogs for having sold us down the drain?

Was ever the uniform so dishonored as by the likes of you who dishonoured it by the act of wearing it?

We want answers and we want revenge from you for taking away our only chance and hope of existence as an honorable nation.

Saeed. A.Malik.

On Oct 23, 2022, this tragedy drew first blood when journalist Arshad Sharif was murdered. This deed, most foul, ensured that the tragedy unleashed on Pakistan could not be walked back, because an investigation into this murder even by a most incompetent police officer would not have taken more than a fortnight, and would have led straight to GHQ.

With this began the farce which was ultimately consummated on the Feb 8, 2024 “elections” in Pakistan.

It is early on polling day as I begin to write this. Having already bastardized the entire process in days prior, in cahoots with the Courts and the ECP, news filtering in is that polling agents of certain PTI candidates are being expelled from the polling booths in obvious preparation for “free stamping” of ballots.

This is the final nail in the coffin for the even playing field promised by the High Command and Qazi Isa!

That the results of these elections were decided by GHQ before a single vote was cast, is already a thing of public knowledge. It would have been so much better had they published these results without resorting to the farce of “elections” and spared us the bother, and the state, the expenses.

That way they could have had the results they desired without them being besmirched by the disgraceful stain of vulgar hypocrisy. That way we could have been spared one additional ingredient of national dishonour gratuitously unloaded on to us.

For a poor, sold-out, third-world country, even this much would have sufficed to keep a frayed semblance of national dignity intact. But the smallness of decision-makers at the helm lost out when challenged by their meanness.

Now, with the farce completed, we may look forward to other things which will come in the wake of the farce– the pain, the torture, and the increasing shedding of blood which comes when the national will is subjugated by an authoritative hand.

In the ensuing battle either this hand will survive, or the nation whose will has been subjugated by it.

But will the nation ultimately survive the strains of this struggle, should be the question that ought to most concern us now. It is the shades of 1971 all over again. Civil unrest is more than a possibility which will result. This will help the current insurgencies suck in the best of our disillusioned young men. And that can only lead us in one direction.
