When considering this question, it would be best to consider America’s record of bringing down unfriendly governments.

For those who would like to be enlightened on this aspect of U.S policy I would like to recommend Stephen Kinzer’s book, ” Overthrow”. This details the attempts, many of them successful, of the U.S government to overthrow foreign governments over the last hundred years.

Secondly, no respectable academic who has studied this subject, nor any public intellectual of the least merit, has put his reputation at risk by denying this proclivity of the U.S deep state.

In Gen Bajwa’s case, we do not have a black and white case yet. But in time, the proof of this black deed will surely come to light.

In the meanwhile, there is a black and white case against Gen Bajwa to the effect that:

  1. He knew that an attempt to bring down the Imran government was in the works.
  2. That this attempt was just around the corner.
  3. And that this attempt would be successful.

If these certainties on Bajwa’s part can be shown to be based on solid assumptions, it must also be assumed that Bajwa was the one pulling the strings of the overthrow.

That these certainties, on the basis of which Bajwa was proceeding, had a solid basis in logic, can reasonably be deduced from the following:

  1. Imran’s government was brought down on the night of April 9/10, 2022.
  2. Just a week earlier on April 02, 2022, Gen Bajwa, while addressing the Islamabad Security Dialogue, spoke squarely against the policy Imran’s government with regard to the Ukraine war, debunking it.

This could not have happened had Bajwa not known about the date set for the coup; that this was around the corner; and had he not been certain about its success.

From here it is one short step to deducing that it was Gen Bajwa himself who had planned the operation and was pulling the required strings. Without this, his certainties could not have been possible.

And if there was any doubt of Bajwa’s collusion, this was dispelled when he addressed a gathering of serving and retired officers a few days later. At one point during his talk, he got carried away. While enumerating Imran Khan’s many follies and faults to enhance acceptability of the regime change among his audience, he blurted out: ” despite my repeated suggestions that he do away with Usman Buzdar and appoint Alim Khan as Chief Minister of Punjab in his place, he failed to comply!”

If anyone ever axed himself by the use of a loose tongue, few could better Bajwa. His confession during an emotional moment spilled the beans, and he left little doubt that he was the mastermind behind the coup.

Whenever a formal inquiry takes place into the removal of the Imran government, the case against Bajwa will be seen to be slam dunk.
