I ponder the consequences of the rise of our national debt, and think that in a mere three years we may reach a point where it may be beyond us to reimburse it. At this point I just can’t help thinking of Zardari and Nawaz Sharif and their gangs and where they have taken us. And then I think of the words of Cicero which are quoted below:
” A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the halls of the very government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of the nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night under the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
Having read Cicero, I am compelled to think about our generals who happily slept through the night when our national debt was piling ever higher because of the diligence with which our leaders, oath-bound to serve us, were robbing the state blind. They, with their “Alphas” from the Staff and War Courses, happy with their collection of plots and voting themselves ever more pelf and privileges, seemed entirely unaware of how national debt erodes national security, the area which has now been under their zealous guardianship for more than seventy-five years!
But eventually they seemed to have woken up to this. We got an indication of this when at long last they began to point to the thieving ways of the Zardaris and the Sharifs and by calling them by the names they deserved. But before we could celebrate their delayed awakening, they went and joined the thieves, overthrew the government, and set the same gang of thieves over us!
Since that day they stand apart from us lesser mortals, and their distinguishing mark has been their lies, and the constant updating of these lies. They are trying to remedy the damage they have done to the state by pushing a narrative, and thrusting into prison those who don’t believe in it. And they are, of course, oath bound and expected to stand in our defense!
Indeed, as Cicero said more than two thousand years ago, ” a nation. cannot survive treason from within.”
