Do watch the link below. It is a brief talk on the latest scandal, which has yet to unravel fully. This involves the melt down of Abraaj, a company begun by Mr Arif Naqvi, “to do good in the world”, as he puts it.
But inevitably wherever some “good” is to be done, the name of the Sharif brothers, being the “Shareefs” they are, happens to creep in.
In the present case, Mr Naqvi apparently enlisted the help of the Sharif brothers to palm off K- electric, one of his ailing enterprises to the Chinese. For their assistance the Sharifs, having international renown on account of their great charitable works, were offered 20 million dollars as a contribution from Mr Naqvi to one of their “charities”!
This “goodness” was averted from being consummated because another “goodness”, the Panama Scandal, showed up its ugly head just about the time these 20 million dollars was to exchange hands.
What a crying pity that sometimes even the gods are constrained to cringe and recoil from certain acts of “charity”!
